This November will be our 67th year anniversary in business. It is with a heavy heart, I make the announcement that Smith’s Shoe Center is closing. Our tentative closing date will be the end of December 2018. For three generations the Smith family has had the honor to serve our community. I am overwhelmed to think about the number of families that have shopped and supported Smith’s Shoes and the number of families that have been able to live their lives in Bloomington while working at Smith’s Shoes. I am blessed by all of you, the customers, and by all those that three generations of Smith’s have had the pleasure to work beside. I struggle for the right words to express my gratitude. We plan to be closed this coming Monday November 5th to mark and tag our entire inventory on sale. We hope to start our liquidation sale the following Tuesday the 6th. While my heart is heavy with this announcement, it also has joy for what lies ahead. In the next coming weeks, I will be excited to share what is next for my family, our amazing team, and the Smith’s Shoe Center space the shoe store occupies.
Thank you just doesn’t cover it. Thank you makes it simple but it is so more complicated than that.

No, Smith’s Shoe Center is not closing. Am I still in the shoe store? You bet! In the last few months just in Bloomington we have seen three shoe stores and other numerous locally owned businesses close their doors forever. Thanks to you and your support since 1952 the Smith family and many others that have worked for us over the years have been able to make our lives here. We love our community. I feel grateful for my wife Lindsay and loyal mangers and team members who help me take care of our time honored shoe business. Without you walking in our door supporting us we close. Without the amazing people that help me to take care of you, our guests, our store fails to survive. People ask me all the time, I wonder why they closed. I think most of the time sadly the answer is they didn’t have enough customers to support their business. Thank you to you and for supporting all the hard working local businesses in our community.

I am local talent as they say. I was born, raised, and live in Bloomington with my wife Lindsay. I am blessed to have four children. Four generations of Smith’s have called Bloomington their home. I grew up in the shoe business. My grandfather opened Smith’s Shoes on the east side of the square in 1952. I come from a family that knows what taking care of the customer is all about!
